A texting ban in Florida was passed by the Senate on May 2, 2013. The bill passed almost unanimously with a vote of 39-1.
The bill states that a person can only be cited by a police officer for texting while driving if they are pulled over for a different offense such as, not wearing a seatbelt. This is considered a “secondary offense.” The bill now heads to Florida Governor, Rick Scott, for his approval or veto.
