Southwest Florida accidents yesterday left two people dead and another in critical condition. The three accidents took place in different parts of Lee County on Sunday.
At about 12:30 a.m., a 27-year-old woman was killed in North Fort Myers when she lost control of her Ford F250 pickup and hit a utility pole at Evergreen and Piney roads. The truck then flipped over. The driver, Crystal Lee Thomas, was not wearing a seat belt and was killed in the crash. Read more.
The crash was captured by a nearby surveillance video.
Another fatal crash took place later in the day Sunday in Bonita Springs. At about 4 p.m., a 19-year-old Cape Coral woman crashed her motorcycle near Imperial Parkway and Waterfall Drive. She apparently missed a curve and crashed in the median, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Elizabeth Perez died at the scene.
In another Sunday morning crash, a woman suffered life-threatening injuries. Two women were injured about 3 a.m. Sunday at Boyscout and Summerlin roads. The driver was going too fast around the curve, rolled the vehicle and struck a wall near Mystic Gardens Apartment Complex. Both women were injured, including one with life-threatening injuries. These accidents took place at different times from the north side of the county to the south. Accidents can happen anywhere at any time. The fact yesterday was such a dangerous day on the road could be a reflection of the significant increase in traffic over the last several weeks from our snowbirds. Our population swells and so do the roadways. This is reminder that we need to be cautious no matter when or where we are driving.
