The two couples were in an SUV traveling south on McGregor Boulevard near College Parkway just after 5:30 p.m. The SUV, a Kia Sorento, was hit when it turned in front of a Ford F-350. The SUV was attempting to turn into Bridge Plaza and drove in front of the pickup. A vehicle stopped in Bridge Plaza waiting to turn onto McGregor Boulevard was also hit.
The crash shut down the busy road for about three hours. The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
These tragedies just remind us how quickly our lives can change. One split-second judgment call, one hesitation, a distraction, an accident and your life could be forever changed.
The couples could have been heading to dinner, making a quick stop or running an errand. They could be long-time friends, just met or are neighbors. They had no way of knowing what the future held for them.
When you drive by a crash, do you ever wonder if that would have been you if you were a few minutes sooner? Accidents involve so many factors — wrong place at the wrong time, mistakes in judgement, traffic violations (i.e. running stop signs, speeding), weather conditions, road hazards, distractions, impaired drivers, etc.
Crashes can have a serious impact on so many people. There are the people directly involved as well as their friends and family. Sometimes serious crashes can even have an impact on the witnesses.
It can also be difficult to navigate the fallout from a serious crash. Who was at fault? What was the cause? Who will pay the medical bills?
