A fatal crash occurred this morning on Alligator Alley. Florida Highway Patrol officers are still gathering details of the crash that killed two people.
The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. in Collier County near mile marker 96. The driver of a box truck rear-ended a semi flatbed truck going northbound on I-75. Both men in the box truck were pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was not injured in the crash.
All westbound lanes into Collier County were shut down for hours this morning. Read more of this developing story.
Fatal crashes are too far too common in Southwest Florida and throughout the country. When a semi truck and a passenger vehicle crash, the results can be devastating or even fatal due to the size and mass of the tractor-trailer.
